You may think I’m on a donut kick, and you’d be right. As I mentioned with my churro donut recipe, buying a donut pan was one of my best life decisions to date. Donuts are so easy to make, and not nearly as time consuming as any other thing I want to bake. Today, I took a crack at a crowd favorite: maple bacon. Enjoy!
Maple Donuts
- 1 c flour
- 1/2 c brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/3 c maple syrup
- 1 egg
- 1/3 c buttermilk
- 2 tbs salted butter (melted)
- 1 tsp maple extract
Maple Glaze
- 1/2 c maple syrup
- 1 c powdered sugar
- 1 tbs cream
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350.
- Combine dry ingredients in one bowl. In separate bowl, combine syrup, butter, egg, sugar, buttermilk, and extract. Mix until well combined.
- Slowly add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and mix until smooth.
- Fill donut pan 1/2 of the way. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
- For the glaze: Mix the syrup, sugar and cream in a shallow dish until well incorporated. It should be liquidy enough to be glaze-like. If too thick, add cream until desired consistency is reached.
- Remove from pan and let cool. When desired, add glaze. You can drizzle or dip the tops in as I did.
- For the bacon, I bought the pre cooked bacon from the grocery store and zapped it 1 minute until it was crispy.
